The selection of glass subject to wind loading is an involved procedure using complex charts and formulas to calculate glass thickness to meet both stress (ULS) and deflection (SLS) requirements. The AS 1288 tool combines both calculations to give a simple method to calculate glass thickness for single glazing, and both equal and unequal pane double glazing.

Glazing may also be subject to Human Impact safety requirements which may exceed the wind load requirements calculated by this tool.
